My review of San Francisco.
My wife and I went to San Francisco via a flight into the International airport. There we rented a car from
National
(choose National under the other selections) car rental. I love National's Emerald Isle service. I really like the fact I can make a car reservation and take any car in any isle, then
stop at the gate and check out with just my Emerald Isle card.
Excellent service!
Anyway, we drove to our hotel to settle in and drop off our bags. I believe, we got there after a 45 minute drive on the freeway to
downtown San Francisco. Our hotel was near the Bay Bridge. We had a great view of the bay. It was the
Habor Court hotel
on Steuart Street. Nice lobby, nice room, nice resturant and good food! I had the steak, filet minon of course. If you are going to
spend your money make it worth while.
Let's stop and talk about conservative spending while traveling. Spending money on a good hotel in a major city is a must! The service
from a larger hotel is a hundred times better than at the motel down the street. I like to sleep well while on vacation and not have noisy
rooms right next to a room where people are banging all night. In a more expensive hotel other guests are quite, because they want it quite.
Also, a large hotel will have a great resturant in the building and hotel guests always get the best seating and views. Hotel food is a little
more expensive, but quality of the food and the atomphere make up for any price difference. We always have one nice meal in the hotel resturant,
all other meals are on the run or in the area we are exploring that day. This is where we save the most money, like eating at subway, or a local
sandwich place. We try to keep these meal to about $8-10 per person. This saves us a lot of money.
When we spend money we try to do it where it makes the trip the easiest, like National car rental, it is fast. A nice hotel, to get a good nights
sleep to be well rested for the exploring the next day. Moderate airfare on a direct flight to San Francisco with an airline based in our city. Local
airlines always have specials in the city they are based in, just watch the newpaper. Connecting in another city is a huge waste of time, and luggage.
Also, driving to another city to fly out on a cheaper flight is a waste on time and normally just causes you more problems than it is worth.
You have to ask yourself, how do I want to be spending my vacation, in my nice hotel or driving to another city to wait in line to get on a plane to
a connection airport? No way! My vacations have to be very smooth, because I want to unwind from the long business weeks.
